![]() ![]() The resort is also very close to the "official key west beach -SMATHERS Beach" and White street pier. I look forward to the walk to Mallory Square area as we take our beers with us and enjoy the scenery of the cottages/houses of old key west and the chickens/roosters and cats roaming the street. 15min walk to the "party district" MArgaritaville, Sloppy joes, Capn Tonys. No dresser drawers were in the room hence, we had to live out of our suitcases but we were able to hang up some clothes in the closet. We had sliding door to pool which was nice. Our room was old school Florida w/ hard wood floors and decor. Our room was not ready upon our arrival at noon hence we changed in the bathroom and headed for the beach. Cheaper drinks are on DUVAL street and some of the local bars. Drinks are pricey but its about the same as any Waldorf hotel chain. They are both long timers at the resort and take pride in their work. ![]() They were rockin the bar trying to keep everyone happy. The bartenders that waited on us were Jan and Rhonda. The tiki bar was exceptional hopping this time of year due to spring break. Mark rents out the jet skis, paddleboards, etc. Mark and his staff are very professional and love hearing their stories about the history of the resort and island. MARK will wipe your sunglasses clean and mist spray you for comfort. Mark remembers us from all our past visits and walks up and down beach daily to make sure customers are happy and beach is clean. These cabana guys run a respectable beach and take pride in their work. Major kudos to BOB, Austin, Adrian and Daniel. The cabana boys did an excellent job of taking care of us daily with our chairs, towels, umbrellas, popcicles, etc. We go for the beach atmosphere and cocktails. This is my 4th time staying at Casa Marina and it gets better everytime. As a matter of fact, it appears to be the norm in the Keys. If it works for the airlines, it may work for hotels! Casa Marina is not the only hotel that uses this practice. However, this is the trend in the travel industry, which I find to be annoying, if not troubling. Why itemize it? I think its a squirmy practice. Include it in the rate, if you feel your customers should pay this. Maybe you can get more traffic if you brought this down a notch? Why charge fees? I don't understand this logic at all. I couldn't see spending $27/pp for breakfast. ![]() I believe the hotel's strategy is to provide that "Waldorf Astoria" feel, however, it doesn't meld with the culture of the area. Maybe this was an unrealistic expectation, but we had this experience at another hotel in Key West at the same price point. But, the resort was missing that Key West "feel". This was not the feel we had at Casa Marina. We went to Key West for the relaxation and the vibe of the area. I will get on this soap box later, but I felt the hotel met our expectations with a few notations. We booked through Priceline, where we were given a $50 credit towards the "Resort Fee". I didn't sense the cost of the room to be overly extravagant compared to its peers in Key West. The hotel was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Room was good and the location within Key West is spectacular. The ocean really isn't swimmable, but not atypical for the area. The grounds surrounding the pool area brought me back to a vacation we had in Hawaii a few years back. the hotel is well-appointed and has a very classic charm to it. unbutton that collar! My overall impression. They all were polite, but some a bit "stuffy". My first judge of any resort is the people working there. We stayed at the Casa Marina for one evening during the trip. Just returned from a vacation with our teenage kids in the Keys. ![]()
